Constable James Arthur
1880: Constable James Arthur, crack shot of Victorian Police Force, while stationed at Steiglitz near Geelong, Victoria Australia, was sent north to hunt Ned Kelly, Australia's notorious bushranger. He shot Ned at his final standoff at Glen Rowan, northern Victoria and was then sent to the Cobden station where he began the hunt for the moonshine distillers. He was accompanied on horseback on the many hunts by Detective and later excise officer, John Mitchell Christie, (Australia's answer to Britain's Sherlock Holmes), along with local constables and black trackers.
